Trips for Kids Detroit combines mountain biking, canoeing/kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing outings with lessons in self-esteem, environmental awareness, teamwork and crime avoidance for kids who would not otherwise have these opportunities. Our day-long events are staffed by volunteers, include lunch and our favorite part of the day, the cookie circle, where we review the day’s challenges that were overcome and relate what we have learned back to our daily lives. A big part of our rides are having park rangers or police officers talk to the kids about the environment and crime avoidance. Trips for Kids Detroit is based on the proven program developed by Trips for Kids in Marin County, California (www.tripsforkids.org). Trips for Kids bike programs have helped inner city and low income kids across the United States and Canada by offering mountain bike outings and environmental education. The goal of the Trips for Kids youth bike programs is to combine lessons in personal responsibility, achievement and environmental awareness through the development of practical skills and the simple act of having fun. ![]() 2007 Goals
